the arrival...

Well I have made it to New York! It was definitely an experience! I left Wednesday night and took the red eye, having me arrive in NY at 6:05am. While at the airport I decided to chat it up with the woman next to me who was there with her daughter. We talked about flying with Jet Blue and random things like that. It turns out that she was visiting her daughter in California who lives in Carlsbad. This woman (Patty is her name I come to find out later) is from NY, Staten Island to be exact, and she was on her way home. In our conversation I commented that I was taking a taxi from the airport to my school and she was not going for it. Patty, and her daughter Erin who is 8, insisted that they drive me from the airport to school. I was a little hesitant at first since these are strange people in a strange place, but on the plane I prayed and God gave me a yes answer as to go with her. RANDOM! Who would have thought I would meet a nice person like that at the airport and end up saving almost $100 in cab fare?
When I finally got to school it was around 730am and there was no one there. Early check-in started at 12pm and so I was kind of super early. I was greeted by the security man at the front of the school. He hooked me up with a ride from a fellow security officer who took me to Harborview Hall where they were passing out keys. (Please note that I am all by myself with 5 bags, two of them weighing almost half as much as me…) From there I got my key after a little wait and headed up to my dorm hall, Guild Hall. The only problem is it is literally up hill, so a nice janitor woman drove me up the hill in her golf cart. From there is was more waiting for people to unlock my dorm hall. Finally I got into my room, but not before having to walk up four flights of stairs with all of my luggage (it took 3 trips). Later on in the day, Frankie the handyman in our hall tells me that we have an elevator… would have been helpful a few hours before that.
The friend issue is so far going good. We had an ice cream social at the coffee shop and I met some nice freshman… Overall it has been a really good experience! I am liking my room and so far all the people I have come in contact with! Thanks God!!!!
